celebchild of the week

Knox and Vivienne
The Brangelina twins have finally arrived and we now can take a look at the names chosen to accompany them on their walk through life! First there's Knox Leon. No doubt the x at the end of this name is meant to link all the male siblings the way many families have chosen to use the same beginning letter for all the children. In and of itself this repeat element could be a plus since the brothers originating from different cultures will have a unifying factor in their identity. The name also wins a good grade by being short and to the point.... boys and the men tend to like that quality. No ready nicknames here either, and that's another plus. But then we run into some issues. This name suggests less than positive associations in our society... hard knocks, a knock on the side of the head... knock, knock, who's there? Oh, and what about Ft. Knox for the son of one of the wealthiest couples on the planet? Teasing fodder? Yes, for sure! As far as the subliminal influence is concerned, this child will do things his way every day... and in every way! He won't mind getting into a few physical tussle either to make a point or protect his territory. While he'll be one of the youngest sibs he'll want to establish his alpha position with his brothers and sisters. Especially expect some fireworks when he starts interacting with feisty Zahara. In the past, Knox has most frequently been used as a surname but like Madison, Parker, Taylor, Lawford and Wyatt the name has moved into the first name position in some families. That said, with Knox we have a name that fits better as a surname. We can't ignore the sight and sound of a name when it comes to usability and here, with Knox Leon Jolie-Pitt we have a full name that does not flow. The sounds don't blend and the syllables tend to stumble out of rhythm. Oh, and the middle name Leon?.... you can expect this little guy to hide that moniker when he gets older going to his middle initial exclusively. Overall, a few pluses on this twin's name, and not nearly enough to make this name worthy of A+potential!

And what about sister Vivienne Marcheline? Vivienne and its alternate spellings (Vivien, Vivian, Viviene, Vivianne) is a name that is slowly coming back into use. The name is elegant to say and has a wonderful nickname option in Vivi or even Viv. The name also speaks of this little one's French birthplace. But Brad and Angelina decided on one of the least ideal spellings, and would have had a much stronger subliminal influence with Vivianne. Vivienne is a name that will stir assertive and even aggressive behavior, so this little lady will not want anyone telling her what to do. This spelling is more masculine than feminine sparking an interest in sports... and often giving birth to a true tomboy. Here's a case where the nickname is even stronger than the formal name. Angelina's mother's name was chosen as the middle name bringing the concept of honoring a family member into the process. In addition, Marcheline is a beautiful sounding name and will likely be cherished by this little girl. But in the sight and sound of this full name we once again have little or no flow or rhythm. With a hyphenated surname it is most ideal to keep the first and middle names a bit shorter with beginning and end sounds that meld on the tongue and on the ear.

Overall, the new twins will stir up lots more independence in a family where siblings are already vying for power. In any large family group it can be a great benefit to coordinate names in their influence so that the family unit is founded on a strong bond... with each individual playing a vital and confident role. Brad and Angie have quite the knack when it comes to expanding their family, but may need a few hints when it comes to the choosing baby names... if they add yet another addition in the future!

Other Babies in the News!
Celebrities, sports figures, politicians and royalty are adding to their families more than ever. Will the names chosen by famous parents for their children encourage fame, fun, fortune and a fabulous life? Or not? Find out what Maryanna has to say about baby names that have recently made their way into the headlines.

recent births

Sunday, Sunday
The long awaited daughter or Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban was born on a Monday but received "Sunday" as her first name. As for this little one's full moniker... Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, I can't really say that Nicole and Keith went as crazily off the beaten path as some celebs in naming their child. But they have stepped a bit outside tradition, and unfortunately their first name choice is not ideal. The name Sunday revs up a heap of internal conflict, and it won't be long before this little girl will want to have some fun adventures while struggling with rules, regulations and expectations of those around her. Expect to see lots of contrast in this personality... stepping out side the box one day and then coloring between the lines the next. But the biggest problem here, is that the name Sunday will encourage overindulgence and addictive behavior.... and this can especially be a concern in someone whose family history points in such a direction. Hopefully, mom and dad will do a little homework on this name's subliminal and opt to use either Sunday Rose on a regular basis... or will use a nickname like Sunney regularly. Happily, the full name for this baby in the limelight, brings excellent vibes!

Honor Marie Warren
Guess Jessica Alba figured it was quite an "honor" to give birth to her new daughter and named her baby accordingly. Interestingly enough, with the first name of Honor, this little one is likely to follow in mom's footsteps since this name influence is all about building a talent in acting and playing roles. No high marks on the middle name Marie. Not only does the name fare poorly in this baby's full name, it's also a boring choice in 2008 when parents are putting more thought into a meaningful middle name for their child. The days of Ann, Lee, Marie and Lynn "in the middle" are long over!

Levi McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey often joked that he might name his expected son Budweiser. Well he didn't go that far... didn't even opt for Bud or Buddy. Instead, he and Camila Alves chose the first name Levi for their new baby. Ironically enough, this is a name that might have this little guy lifting more than his fair share of Budweisers when he grows up since it is a moniker that encourages restlessness, socializing, adventurousness, overindulgence and a great sense of humor. Sounds like characters in a few of Matthew's past roles? These parents should polish up on their parenting skills learning how to set healthy, strong boundaries while encouraging fun and creativity. The full name here brings a stubborn streak and a desire to be very independent. There will never be a dull moment in this household!

Stella Doreen McDermott
Congrats to to Tori Spelling and her hubbie on the birth of little Stella on June 6th. How does the name Stella rate? High marks all around go to these parents for a moniker that provides a wealth of wonderful qualities. Doreen is not the best choice for a middle name here, but as long as this young lady uses just her middle initial D. in her full name, she'll have a winner!

Harlow Winter Kate Madden
Born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden on January 11th, this little lady received a first name that has commonly been used in times past as a surname. With the first name Harlow, there will be many challenging conditions and experiences in life. Here's a case where using the middle name Winter as a first name would be advised!

Orion Christopher Noth
You don't see or hear the first name Orion too much, but perhaps parents should consider this first name. It carries a super influence bringing a host of wonderful qualities that allows the natural talents to come through. Chris Noth and Tara Wilson chose well in providing this first name for their son born on January 18th.

Maryanna's celeb baby name suggestions

As Celeb Ladies in Waiting await their new arrivals, they may wish to ponder some suggestions from baby naming specialist, Maryanna Korwitts.

For Minnie Driver
Minnie recently admitted in an interview that she is feeling a bit apprehensive about coming up with the perfect name for her child due to the uniqueness of her last name. Options like Race or Duncan (Dunk) Driver just won't do. No wonder this mom is hoping for a girl! So what if Minnie's first baby is a boy?
A suggestion from Maryanna for a boy... Jerett W. Driver
Since Minnie has seldom been one to play by the rules, it might work best if she chose a name for a son that encouraged independence, originality, pioneering and self-sufficiency. The first name Jerett blends well in sound with Driver, and it is a name that will carry many of the qualities that would put a little guy on the same page with his famous mom. While middle names are often a part of the mix today, a simple middle initial might be enough to make a solid statement of professional standing. Many don't realize that Minnie's given name was Amelia Fiona. In going from Amelia to Minnie there was a shift to the very qualities found in the name Jerett. Pick this name and mom and son will be on the same wavelength for life!
